Guidance Policy Functional Preservation
Functional preservation, also known as content preservation or logical preservation: “ (…)seeks to ensure the continued accessibility of digital resources over time, by active intervention to minimise the disruption caused by technological changes. It may generate new technical versions of the resources through processes such as format migration. Functional preservation covers a number of different preservation strategies all aiming at preserving different kinds of digital material. Choosing a functional preservation strategy needs careful consideration as a strategy needs to be selected that preserves the integrity of the material after preservation actions and allows the organisation and the Designated Community to access and understand the material for years to come.
