M3P Elevator Pitch

I do research on histories of media and live performance. Previously I worked with a New York arts organization called Franklin Furnace Archive and wrote a book on their pioneering efforts with archiving ephemeral art, particularly early works of live art on the Internet. I am now running the Malta Media Memory Project, which is a similar project focused on the intangible cultural heritage of Malta. However, as there's no systematic collection or archiving of Maltese music and associated arts we're primarily building the necessary infrastructure to capture, preserve and disseminate such works. This is useful and essential for two main reasons: (a) No one else is doing it even though it's clearly necessary, and (b) more and more people are able to contribute materials to such a project because the basic skill of sharing photos, stories, videos and all sorts of other materials online are becoming common practice through social media networks like Facebook. Our primary goal is to make it possible for as many people as possible to learn about the need for the project and contribute materials to it that may otherwise be lost or forgotten for ever. Over the next 2 to 3 years we hope to achieve critical mass on the collection to ensure that we can proceed with making this project a visible concern for anyone interested in preserving Malta's intangible cultural heritage. That would enable us to have potential stakeholders engage with the project in a strategic way for the long-term.
