| Who | My name is Larry Murray and I have been at the core of our plans for Digital Preservation of Public Record since initial inception in 2004. I have taken the lead with regards to design and development of the system and am approaching the point of implementation and testing |
| What | PRONI and by implication of your position as Keeper of the Records, are legislatively responsible for the Public Records in Northern Ireland - irrespective of media - and the explosion of digital material in all public sector areas provides the latest and greatest preservation challenge to date for PRONI |
| Why | We must be pro-active in facing this latest challege before we are swamped - in order to minimise the risk of failure and loss of reputation, a significant investment in research into the issues surrounding digital preservation has already been made. |
| Goal | The current project for the establishment of a digital repository is timebound and completion of the repository and access systems is scheduled for August 2013. In order for this to be achievable, the resouces identified in the Project Plan are required - on time and fully skilled to meet the challenge. We must now build on our research and implement a trusted, robust and sustainable repository, thereby securing the Public record for generations to come. |
